Will Free Online Courses Replace College Degrees: Online Marketing MBA

Will Free Online Courses Replace College Degrees: Online Marketing MBA

Online marketing MBA has in the past few years been the whole face of education has changed with the advent of online degrees. In the initial months of 2012, leading universities like MIT, Stanford and Harvard started their online programs with an aim to give the opportunity to students from all around the globe. As a result, hundreds of thousands of students from all over the world took admission in these universities. Well, it was a new phenomenon named as MOOCs. The next question which arises in the mind of many people is that ‘Will free online marketing MBA Replace College Degrees?’

Currently, this thing is not happening. Still, students are paying high fees in order to get their Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from renowned universities. Students are taking loans to pay their fee in larger numbers than ever before. In fact, the number of new admission holders in the universities is increasing rapidly and there is no sign of the online colleges to overtake the traditional universities yet. The failure of online courses has nothing to do with the quality of online courses. As a matter of fact, these online courses are really good and their quality is really good by any means. Today, students only consider getting an on-campus degree which they think will help them to get a good job in the future. In fact, they want to secure their future and that is why they are paying high fees to universities.

Traditional university degrees are providing several kinds of information. The first thing is the competition to get admission to these universities to get a traditional on-campus degree. This process filters out the best students. College degrees help students to get admission to continue their studies further. Before 1869, anyone who wanted to be a lawyer could get admission to a law school. He was able to get a law degree without any prior education. But in 1869, when Charles Eliot took the office as president of Harvard, he made the rule that a student must hold a graduate degree to get admitted to law. Another college also followed the same tradition and as a result, it became a huge market for students who wanted to get a Bachelor’s degree in order to get admission to law schools.

Another important factor in this context is that traditional college degrees follow the government regulations and standard human resources practice.  Fr example, it does not matter how intelligent or hard working teacher you are. If you don’t have a Bachelor’s degree, it is illegal for any institution to hire you.
However, there is massive work going on to revolutionize the online college degrees. Institutions are trying hard to make these online degrees stand on equal footing with traditional college degrees.
The Mozilla Foundation, owners of Mozilla Firefox are now introducing Open Badges project. It is a system of electronic badges which a college can issue to students studying online. The badge will indicate the link of online course which was earned by the student helping to find how and why, exactly, the badge was earned.
